Alberta.com Community Privacy Issues

Alberta.com Community user privacy is protected by the TELUS Privacy Commitment

The staff at Alberta.com and, specifically, those responsible for the Community section of Alberta (both current and future employees), will maintain the confidentiality of personal information you provide to Alberta Community and use it only to support your customer relationship with Alberta Community, Alberta.com in general, and TELUS Corporation.

Philosophy of inclusiveness
When we index the Web, we look first for all publicly available Web sites and then for the most active Web sites. This enables our users to find information based on a comprehensive and broad index that is representative of the entire World Wide Web. For webmasters, our inclusiveness of sites regardless of size allows even small Web sites to be found by the millions of users who use Alberta.com, Zip2, and AltaVista Canada everyday. In addition to our broad coverage of the Web, by actively indexing the most active Web sites, we give our users access to the most up-to-date information on servers that tend to change on a regular basis.

We do not edit or judge content when we index. When we provide search results to our users, we do not make assumptions about what a user is looking for. Instead, Alberta.com - through AltaVista's search technology (Dynamic Categorization Technology (AKA: COW9) ) - provides search tools that allow our users to choose content based on their interest at a given time.

Alberta Community users remain anonymous
Alberta.com, TELUS, and Zip2 do not know the name, email address, phone number, or home address of those who visit Community unless the user chooses to reveal his or her personal info. Any information concerning names or addresses is only used for mapping and directions purposes; we do not sell or rent any such information to third parties. Because of our efforts to keep users anonymous, user-based information Alberta.com and Zip2 have is useful only across our own networks.

Alberta.com and Zip2 "cookie" use
Cookies are small text files that a Web site can use (millions of sites are currently using them) to recognize a repeat visitor to its site. Cookies are not programs that come onto a user's system and damage files. Alberta.com uses cookies that contain no information about you - only a unique number that has no meaning whatsoever outside of our network. Alberta.com uses this number to track ad exposure to assure a user is not bombarded with the same ad over and over again and to ensure site personalization. Because there is no advertising in Alberta Community, this only applies to personalization features.
